About
Richard Mallaby.
Richard Mallaby, owner and director of Creative Stone Masonry, completed his first stone project at age twelve, working alongside a team of Indian labourers on one of his parents’ construction projects in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Returning to Sydney and finishing school, Richard began work with his brother John; together as Mallaby Landscaping they worked in Sydney for ten years. In 1985 he travelled to study and work in the UK and the Himalaya, before returning to accept a stonemasonry project on Hayman Island. On completion he moved to Northern NSW and resumed the partnership with Mallaby Landscaping, and during this period began an extensive study of Permaculture.
Since then the work has ranged from private gardens to public heritage: precision Bluestone construction for Melbourne’s Floral Clock, the safety upgrade of the Grotto and Fern Gully in Kings Domain, heritage-listed water features in Fitzroy Gardens, and granite feature and retaining walls for the Australian Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne.
