About us
Richard Mallaby, owner/director of Creative Stone Masonry, completed his first stone project at age 12, working with a team of Indian laborers on one of his parents construction projects in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Upon returning to Sydney and completing school, Richard began work with his brother John, and together as Mallaby Landscaping, worked in Sydney for 10 years.
In 1985 Richard travelled to study and work in the UK and the Himalaya before returning to accept a stonemasonry project on Hayman Island. On completion, Richard moved to Northern NSW where he resumed his partnership with Mallaby Landscaping. During this period Richard began an extensive study of Permaculture, becoming the first trainee for internationally acclaimed Educator Robyn Francis. As well as refining his skills in stonemasonry and landscape construction, Richard broadened his skills to include more environmentally friendly materials such as mud brick, recycled materials (such as glass bottles) and hay bale construction. In 1998, Richard moved to Jindabyne, NSW. It was here that Richard started his first Stonemasonry business, Aussie Rock Constructions. This business was a successful small business, completing many commercial and domestic projects in Jindabyne, Perisher Valley and Thredbo. After 8 years in the Snowy Mountains, Richard and the business returned to Northern NSW where Richard completed projects in Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Ballina and Lismore.
In 2009 Richard and his young family moved to Melbourne. Being new to the area, Richard changed the Business name to Creative Stone Masonry. While in Melburne, Richard completed projects for clients including Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, Paringa Estate Winery and Restaurant, Prancing Horse Estate, Heritage listed City Landscape features such as Historic Fern Gully, and the rejuvenation of Melbourne’s famous Floral clock.
In 2021 Richard and his family moved to Brisbane, where they continue to produce exemplary and creative projects all over South East Queensland.
